Zelenskyy states that Russia transfers 60,000 troops from Ukraine to Kursk
Russia has redeployed 60,000 troops from Ukraine to Kursk following a Ukrainian military operation in the Kursk region, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He noted that one of the goals of the operation was to force Moscow to withdraw troops from the 600-mile front line in Ukraine, particularly from the eastern part of the country.
The President specified that Russia had relocated 60,000 of its soldiers from Ukraine to Kursk. However, there was no significant reduction in troops observed in the Pokrovsk direction.
Operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in Russia's Kursk region has been ongoing for almost a full month. Russian Telegram channels reported the start of the operation on August 6.
As of August 27, according to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukraine controls 1,300 square kilometers of Russian territory and 100 settlements. Additionally, 594 Russian servicemen have been captured.
In an interview with NBC News, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's partners, including the Biden administration, were unaware of the operation's start in the Kursk region. It came as a surprise to them. Moreover, the operation was kept under the strictest secrecy, even within Ukraine.
